Accessibility

The Outdoor Connection is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We are working to improve the accessibility and usability of our website and to align it with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA.

What this covers

This statement applies to the public pages of this website. It does not cover the private Site Manager used to edit the site, or content hosted by other organisations that we link out to.

How we have tested

Our most recent review combined:

  • Automated testing with axe-core against the published pages.
  • Keyboard-only testing of every link, button and menu.
  • Colour-contrast measurement of the site's text and interface colours.
  • Testing at desktop, tablet and mobile widths, including narrow screens.
  • Review of the page structure, headings, landmarks and image descriptions.

We have not yet completed testing with a screen reader by a person who uses one daily. We say so plainly rather than imply a level of testing we have not done.

Known limitations

Some headings and captions sit on top of photographs. We use a shaded overlay to keep that text readable, but the contrast depends on the photograph behind it, and a newly added photograph may not have been checked yet. If you find text that is hard to read, please tell us and we will change the image or the treatment.

If any part of this website is difficult to use, we want to hear about it — it helps us fix the actual problem rather than guess.

We read every message and will do our best to put things right. We have not set a guaranteed response time, so we are not going to promise one here.

A note on wording

We describe this site as working towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA rather than certified or fully compliant. There is no official certification for private-sector websites under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and accessibility is something we keep working at rather than finish.
